Tinychat is one of the oldest names in online video chat. It started in 2009 as a place to spin up group video rooms and grew to over 20 million registered users. Today, tinychat.com is a different product: a free, one-on-one zufällige Video-Chat-Seite where you click Start and meet a Fremder on camera. This review covers what Tinychat is now, what happened to the original, how it works, its features, safety, pricing, and how it compares with the alternatives, so you can decide quickly whether it is worth your time.

Tinychat quick facts

Was ist Tinychat?

Tinychat is a free random video Chat-Website that connects you with a different stranger each time you press Start. There is no account, no profile and no app. You pick your gender, allow your camera and microphone, and you are matched within seconds. If the conversation is not working, you click Next and move on.

That is a big shift from the Tinychat many people remember. For most of its life, Tinychat was a community platform built around Chaträume, where anyone could create a room on any topic and several people could be on camera at once. The current site keeps the name but works like Chatroulette oder Omegle: one person, one camera, one click to the next übereinstimmen. Its video chat engine is supplied through a partnership with CooMeet.

What happened to the original Tinychat?

If you are searching for Tinychat’s group rooms, this timeline explains why you will not find them:

• 2009 — Launch: Tinychat launched as a simple tool for creating instant chat rooms, then added video chat, screen sharing and embeddable rooms. Up to 12 people could be on camera in one room, with no limit on viewers.
• 2010 — Tinychat Next: a Chatroulette-style random chat feature that added topic-based rooms.
• 2011 — Funding: Tinychat raised $1.5 million from investors including Ashton Kutcher, Sean Combs and Naval Ravikant.
• 2012 — Peak growth: the company reported 20 million registered users, around 400,000 daily users and profitability.
• December 2014 — Acquisition: Paltalk, the owner of Paltalk and Camfrog, bought Tinychat and kept it running as a standalone app.
• 2017 — Redesign: the site was rebuilt with HD video and Android and iOS apps.
• December 2024 — Shutdown: an announcement on the Tinychat website said the service had ended and closed down.
• 2025 onward — Relaunch: tinychat.com returned as a one-on-one Zufälliger Video-Chat site with no sign-up.

In short, the Tinychat brand is still live, but the room-based community, profiles and apps are gone. Anyone looking for group video rooms today will need a different platform.

Tinychat features

Tinychat keeps its feature set small and focused on fast one-on-one passende. Here is what you get:

Is Tinychat free?

Yes. One-on-one random video chat is free with no account. A premium membership adds gender and country filters for people who want more control over their matches. The core chat, the Next button and the text chat do not require payment.

Is Tinychat safe to use?

Tinychat is anonymous by design. It asks for no personal information to start, says it does not collect user data during chats, and states that it runs 24/7 moderation. That lowers the risk of exposing your identity, but it does not filter who you meet. You are on camera with random strangers, and the site’s own pages include adult-oriented sections and a 2257 compliance statement, so expect mature content.

A few habits keep you safer:

• Persönliche Daten sollten geheim gehalten werden: never share your full name, address, workplace or social media accounts.
• Check your background: make sure nothing on camera identifies where you live or work.
• Skip fast: if a chat feels wrong, click Next or close the tab.
• Don’t click links from strangers: random chat is a common route for scams and phishing.

Tinychat is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. It is not suitable for children or teenagers.

Tinychat vs other random video chat sites

Random video chat has plenty of options, especially since Omegle shut down in November 2023. Here is how Tinychat compares:

Tinychat sits in the same space as Chatroulette: free, fast and anonymous. Its main advantage is name recognition and a clean, quick interface. If you miss the old group rooms, Paltalk, which owned Tinychat from 2014, still runs room-based video chat. If you want more no-signup options, the AnonCam Das Verzeichnis für zufällige Video-Chats bietet ähnliche Alternativen.

Tinychat pros and cons

• Matches you within seconds.
• Works the same on mobile and desktop browsers.

• Available in 10 languages.
• Simple Next and Stop controls that suit first-time users.

Nachteile

• The group chat rooms, profiles and apps that made Tinychat famous are gone.
• Gender and country filters require a paid membership.
• Adult-oriented content means it is not suitable for anyone under 18.
• As with all random chat, the quality of matches depends on who is online.

Who is Tinychat best for?

Tinychat suits adults who want instant, anonymous Videogespräche without setting anything up. It works well if you want to pass time, Leute kennenlernen from other countries or practise a language with no commitment. It is a poor fit if you want topic-based group rooms, a saved friend list or verified matches. For those, a room-based service such as Paltalk or a paid verified service such as CooMeet will serve you better.

Tinychat review verdict

Tinychat today is a capable, no-frills random video Chat-Seite. It is fast, free to start and easy to use on any device, and the premium filters give you more control if you want it. What it is not is the community platform its name still suggests. Long-time users looking for group rooms will be disappointed, while newcomers who want quick one-on-one chats will find little to complain about. We rate it 3,9 von 5: a dependable no-signup option that trades its old community features for speed and simplicity.
